About the Strathmore Neighborhood:
Strathmore is a city neighborhood in the southwest corner of Syracuse, NY.  It is conveniently located minutes from Downtown, Armory Square, the Zoo, Syracuse University, and the Carousel Mall.  Most of the neighborhood homes were built in the 1920's and 1930's, but you will find some that date back to the early 1900's and a few that were recently built.   Recently, a part of the Strathmore neighborhood that was originally known as Strathmore By-The-Park (about 200 homes bounded by Wellesley Rd to the east, north by Strathmore Dr, west by S. Geddes St, and south by Glenwood Ave) was designated as a Federal and New York State Historic District.  This section joins Onondaga Park and a handful of individual homes in the neighborhood on the National Register of Historic Places.  Notable landmarks within Strathmore include Onondaga Park, Most Holy Rosary Church, and the Woodland Reservoir.  For more info on the Strathmore neighborhood, visit

The Strathmore Parks Run race is coordinated by the Greater Strathmore Neighborhood Association, whose mission is to preserve, promote, and protect the quality of life in the greater Strathmore area.  A portion of the Parks Run proceeds will benefit the Greater Strathmore Neighborhood Association and Sarah House.
About the James J. Dwyer Jr. Memorial Fund:
In 1998, Jim Dwyer, Jr. died unexpectedly of cardiac failure at the young age of 31.  Jim grew up in the Strathmore neighborhood, went to Corcoran High School, LeMoyne College, and still lived in the area.   After his sudden death, his family wanted to honor his life and memory, so they organized the James J. Dwyer, Jr. Memorial Fund.  Initially, the fund purchased and sponsored training for Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) for many public spaces, including LeMoyne College and Syracuse University.  The family believes the availability of an AED may have helped Jim Dwyer when his heart suddenly stopped.  They hope to help others by making them more available. The funds also supports many worthwhile community efforts, including an annual scholarship for a college-bound senior at Corcoran High School and as principal sponsor of the Parks Run.

About Sarah House:

The Sarah House, located in Strathmore at 100 Roberts Avenue, provides lodging in a healing environment primarily for relatives and loved ones of adult patients seeking medical treatment outside their own community.  It is the only residence of its kind in the Syracuse area.  Having a loved one hospitalized away from home for an extended period of time can lead to many stresses like financial worries, anxiety over the eventual diagnosis, as well as being in an unfamiliar city away from friends and family.  The hospitality of Sarah House helps make this experience more comforting by providing shelter and emotional support.  Sarah House has served over 11000 guests since opening in 1994.
